Shehzad Batliwala, DO

Ophthalmologist, Surgeons

Dr. Shehzad Batliwala, known to his patients as “Dr. Shehz,” is a board-certified ophthalmologist. He was raised in the piney woods of Tyler, Texas, where he attended the University of Texas at Tyler and graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. During his undergraduate studies, he launched a tech company focused on repairing and maintaining smart devices, which today operates retail stores in East Texas under the brand SmartPhone ER. He then attended the University of North Texas Health Science Center for medical school, where he was elected into the Sigma Sigma Phi Honor Society. During medical school, he married his childhood fascination with outer space and interest in ophthalmology by earning an internship at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, researching visual impairment experienced by astronauts in zero gravity.

Dr. Batliwala was the first osteopathic physician selected to complete his ophthalmology residency at one of the top programs in the country, the Dean McGee Eye Institute in Oklahoma City. He then obtained further subspecialty training in LASIK and presbyopia-correcting intraocular lens implants at ClearSight Vision Correction Center in Oklahoma City. His advanced training in bladeless corneal refractive surgery techniques allows him to provide his patients with freedom from glasses and contacts after cataract surgery.

Dr. Batliwala is a man of many interests. He enjoys speaking on many topics, ranging from financial freedom through real estate investing to the benefits of investing in space and space exploration to elevate humanity’s potential. A lifelong learner, he recently completed a Master’s degree in Global Management with an emphasis on space business, leadership, and policy. In his spare time, he enjoys stand-up comedy and rock climbing. In 2023, he climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, which is the tallest mountain in Africa.
